Why has Scents of Relief selected soy wax as our wax of choice?

The base of the candle is truly what makes it. And when it comes to candle making, there are a lot of waxes to choose from. Between paraffin wax, bees wax, and soy wax, the choice for us was a clear one.

Wax choice alters many characteristics that may go unnoticed. Burn time, carbon footprint, and cleanliness are among the reasons, but let’s dive into specifics!

Here are five of the many benefits of soy wax.

1. Slow Burn Time

Do you ever burn a candle and feel like it goes too quickly? We all want to get the most out of our candles. Soy wax burns 40-50% slower than commonly used paraffin wax! The Botanical Candle Co describes this in their article.

2. Eco-Friendliness

Soy wax is vegetable-based, made from soybean oil. A far more eco-friendly option to petroleum-based paraffin wax. The production of soybeans both supports sustainable farming and is a renewable energy source. Other characteristics are that soy wax is biodegradable and, in general, the production and shipping of said wax leaves a smaller carbon footprint than other wax types. ReCandle Co. goes deep into these benefits in their blog.

3. Easy to Clean

When it comes to hand-pouring candles, things can get messy. I prefer soy wax as it is water-soluble, making clean-up much easier. Easy clean up also means less waste and a more enjoyable candle-making experience!

4. Safe

The burning of soy wax candles does not give off toxins, carcinogens, or pollutants. This means that it is safe for those with allergies and sensitive respiratory systems, including pets and youngins. The wax itself also has a lower melting point than other waxes (part of what extends the burn time), which reduces the risk of burns from candle incidents as the wax is cooler when melted.

5. Effective Scent Distribution

The lower melting point also accounts for better scent distribution, as the fragrance leaves the candle at a slower rate and is retained in the wax more effectively than in other wax options. Leaving you with the best-smelling candle for the longest amount of time.
